National Gallery - Portico Shop: Shortlisted for FX Awards 2014

The Portico Shop at The National Gallery has been shortlisted for the prestigious FX International Interior Design Awards 2014 under the 'Retail' category.

The winners will be announced at the awards ceremony on Wednesday 26 November 2014 at Grosvenor House Hotel, Park Lane, Mayfair, London.

EDGE was commissioned by The National Gallery Company Ltd to re-design its ground floor Portico Shop responding to a brief to find ways to increase turnover from the existing store footprint of 193 sq m.

The success: sales reports from the first few months of trading indicated the following:

  • The core postcard range has been restricted to the top 50 (previously the full range of 200, still available in another store, was sold here) and profit from the top 50 has increased 17%.
  • The London range, featured at the front of the store and aimed at the tourist customer, has taken up to 15% of store sales.
  • Jewellery with its own display case built into the central till point unit, has doubled its average weekly sales.
  • Scarves, displayed on their own newly designed fixture, are trading at over three times their previous volume.
