Cultural change from closed to shared space.

To create a 65,000 sq ft, 6-storey UK head office for French oil giants Perenco at a new site just off the King’s Road, which represented a new generation of the owners’ family. The offices had to house staff in open plan areas but with a cellular feel, as well as executive offices, training and meeting rooms and an in-house café/restaurant, with an overall ‘sophisticated and masculine’ treatment.

What’s the Big Idea?

‘Evolving Heritage’: we needed to retain a sense of family heritage but also provide an environment which was commensurate with the new generation of Perenco family leadership taking over. Finishes needed to be incredibly sophisticated and detailing impeccable, but the biggest task was a cultural shift. The new offices were a new start in many senses and staff had to be taken from working in small cellular teams to an open-plan space, the design of which needed to ease the shift by creating connections and clear zoning. High-spec natural materials, including natural stone, oak and leather panelling fulfil the ‘sophisticated and masculine’ brief.
