Educating children through playful discovery about sustainability and electricity generation.

Langage Power Station

Having successfully worked with Centrica for over 11 years on a range of evolutionary workplace projects, EDGE was delighted to be asked to help Centrica Energy with their latest ‘UK Interactive Discovery Centre’ initiative. Aimed at children in the 7-14 age group, the objective was to create an educating and inspiring destination to play and learn about electricity and sustainability, set within the active Langage Power Station near Plymouth (where natural gas is converted to electricity).

What’s the Big Idea?

‘Playfully educating’– using the art of play to learn, discover, explore. Children are taken through the energy chain story and educated about the sustainable measures that can be put in place along the way to help the environment. Set within a vibrant and playful high-colour environment, children are encouraged to learn via illustrative story walls, interactive media stations and playful soft furnishing ‘group activity areas‘.  Four interactive zones take inspiration from the national curriculum, where storylines were developed in collaboration with education specialists and local teachers.

Return on Investment:

‘In our experience, all young people (and teachers!) buy into the Discovery Centre ‘wow’ factor. No one fails to be impressed by the design, content and interactive learning solutions of the Discovery Centre.’
Jo McCaren, Education Advisor and School Visit Co-ordinator, Centrica Langage Energy Centre.
