Defining a commercial sustainable retail proposition.

The Post Office

EDGE’s role with the Post Office began with a series of stakeholder workshops aimed at establishing a sustainable commercial proposition for the Post Office’s ‘crown’ retail network. From this basis, a retail format was devised, where space allocation responded directly to commercial drivers and key customer missions, within the context of creating a community store that brought to life Post Office values: care, challenge and commit.

What’s the Big Idea?

The need to bring to life the Post Office’s 3 core values - care, challenge, commit – by creating ‘The Science behind the space’. CARE - all future retail thinking had to value people by understanding the stresses of everyday life, making it easier for people to connect and access the brand. CHALLENGE – help the Post Office challenge the way they have always done things by driving new efficient, relevant and future thinking retail models. COMMIT – committing to change, to helping people and to creating relevant retail formats that work for people and deliver commercial goals.

Return on Investment:

Three trial stores (in Nottingham, Peterborough and Derby) were fully operational in under a year.

‘The real difference is their desire and ability to ‘get’ the Post Office as a business: not just creating a ‘pretty branch’, but doing something that meets our commercial needs, including things that we hadn’t been able to articulate before EDGE came in. We are really, really impressed with their approach.’
Katherine Mearman, Senior Brand & Format Manager, Post Office.
