Saying Thank you can be so rewarding!

We are very conscious of our role in society and shaping places for people so when Essex Firefighters in Basildon shared their desire to create a memorial and contemplation garden, we offered our services.

The station acquired a piece of steel from 9/11 through NYFD and our design incorporates this and memorial plaques to local Essex firefighters from the station, lost in service

We cannot hope to understand the stresses and pressures of a firefighter’s working day and they needed a space that was theirs, away from - but still at work.

What they have now is a hard, barren space with little softness,  a stark reflection of what their day can bring, not somewhere they can relax.

Our design introduces areas for solitude and group use, features to focus on, serenity away from the trauma or just somewhere to enjoy!  They told us:

“We want to remember our colleagues, not be reminded we could be the next ones being remembered, somewhere the families of those we’ve lost can come and know they won’t be forgotten”

We just had to help these brave men and women, talking to them brought our own working lives into perspective!

To implement this design we are working with private donors for materials, labour and expertise and in some cases financial support to deliver this space as a gift from our design and construction community to say Thank you to them - We still need some specialists to help with materials and skills so please do get in touch if you feel you can help out.

All of our services have been and are being provided Pro Bono.
